The City of Homestead has declared a State of Emergency as Hurricane Milton intensifies into a Category 1 hurricane. This declaration is a follow up to similar actions by the State of Florida and Miami-Dade County. In response, the city Public Works and Engineering Department is actively pumping water from flooded areas and clearing drains as part of standard hurricane preparation. Homestead Public Service (HPS) Energy has initiated storm-hardening measures, and the Homestead Police are patrolling the streets to ensure community safety. The City continues to closely monitor the storm and is taking all necessary steps to protect residents and infrastructure.
