The Homestead City Council unanimously appointed Mr. Nzeribe (Zerry) Ihekwaba, PhD, PE as the City Manager effective March 25th, 2024. Dr. Ihekwaba is an accomplished professional with an extensive background in civil engineering, construction management, and public service spanning over three decades.
He joins the City of Homestead from the City of Miami, where he held various leadership roles since 2010. As a licensed Professional Engineer in Florida and Georgia, he earned his Civil Engineering degree from the University of Nigeria in 1985 and a Ph.D. in Structural and Materials Engineering from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, in 1996. Dr. Ihekwaba's extensive experience includes serving as Deputy City Manager in Miami, where he previously held positions such as Assistant City Manager for seven years and Director of Public Works for over four years. He is an active member of professional organizations like the American Society of Civil Engineers and Leadership Florida, and he has been recognized by both governmental and non-governmental entities for his professional, leadership, and community contributions. Married to The Honorable Chiaka Ihekwaba, a Miami-Dade County Judge, Dr. Ihekwaba brings a wealth of expertise and commitment to his new role in Homestead.
The City of Homestead will host an installation ceremony on March 28th, 2024 starting at 6:00PM, at City Hall Council Chambers to welcome Mr. Nzeribe (Zerry) Ihekwaba, PhD, PE, as the new City Manager, followed by a reception.
