Urban Forest Reforestation Grant
- Scope of Work: The purpose of the project is to increase equitable access to urban tree canopy while increasing community engagement and tree planting in disadvantaged communities. The project will include the planting of 898 native, non-invasive trees as well as non-invasive grasses and shrubs. The installation of proposed trees and shrubs will be in various locations within the right of way throughout the City as well as several City parks including Wittkop Park, Blakey Park, and Roby George Park.
- Budget: $755,667.78 - U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service Grant; awarded by the Hispanic Access Foundation
- Project Period: June 17, 2024 - December 31, 2027
Urban and Community Forestry Grant
- Scope of Work: Purchase and planting of 42 native trees to enhance the urban canopy in key areas of Downtown Homestead.
- Civic Court – from NE 2nd Drive to U.S. 1 (N. Homestead Boulevard)
- Residential Area – between NW 8th Street and NW 15th Street, and from SW 187th Avenue to NW 10th Avenue
- Budget: $49,500 - Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Grant
- Project Period: April 14, 2025 - January 31, 2026
Florida Highway Beautification Grant Program
Scope of Work: Enhance the visual landscape along key transportation corridors, including Krome Avenue (S.R. 997), Campbell Drive (S.R. 998), and U.S. 1 (S.R. 5). Project includes design, permitting and installation of shade and palm trees as well as ground cover and irrigation system. This beautification initiative aims to improve the visual appeal and environmental quality of these corridors, contributing to the overall aesthetic and livability of the community.
- Budget: $160,250 - Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Grant and PTP (City)
