SW 1st Avenue Drainage Improvements
- Scope of Work: Design, permitting and construction of the roadway, drainage system and sidewalk improvements along SW 1 Ave. from Mowry Drive to SW 1 Street.
- Budget: Design - $72,720; Construction - $150,000
- Project Period: June 2024 - September 2026
Roadway and Transit Project
- Scope of Work:
- Enhance the multimodal transportation within the project area which includes installation of sidewalks, accessibility ramps and new trolley shelters.
- Krome Avenue Corridor - Reconstruct and upgrade the underground utilities along Krome Avenue from NW 4 Street to Lucy Street; and reconstruct Krome Avenue from NW 4 Street to MDC Busway, including new drainage system, sidewalks, lighting, landscaping and irrigation system.
- Budget: $11.8 million - Florida Transit Authority (FTA) grant, PTP (City) and other funding
- Project Period: July 2024 - March 2028
Flagler Avenue Water and Sewer Upgrade
- Scope of Work: Enhance and upgrade the water and sewer infrastructure on Flagler Avenue between Krome Avenue and Campbell Drive.
- Budget: $786,000
- Project Period: July 1, 2024 - June 2027
East 6th Avenue Drainage Improvements
- Scope of Work: The projects' goal is to mitigate the impacts of storms that produce heavy rainfall through the installation of a new stormwater system along East 6th Avenue (NE & SE) from US1 to 328th Street. The development of these crucial infrastructure elements will protect the area’s residents, emergency responders, and property from the direct impacts of flooding caused by increased weather events from climate change.
- Budget: $1.25 million - Grant-funded by Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Resilient Florida Program
- Project Period: February 24, 2023 - September 30, 2026
City of Homestead Comprehensive Vulnerability Assessment
- Scope of Work: Complete a Citywide comprehensive vulnerability assessment (VA) pursuant to Section 380.093, Florida Statutes (F.S.) as well as develop Local Mitigation Strategy. The project will include public outreach and stakeholder engagement. The VA will identify flood vulnerabilities by conducting exposure and sensitivity analyses. The plan will focus on using historical data, current conditions and modeling to identify vulnerable critical infrastructure and provide strategies for adaption of these assets to meet the growing threat caused by climate change and sea-level rise.
- Budget: $265,052 - Grant-funded by Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Resilient Florida Program
- Project Period: October 17, 2023 - September 30, 2026
Stormwater Master Plan
- Scope of Work: The City’s stormwater system is essential for managing rainwater and preventing flooding. However, parts of the system are outdated, and the City lacks detailed information on its condition and capacity. Conducting a full survey of the stormwater infrastructure—including all outfalls—is essential to determine how well the current infrastructure can handle typical and extreme storm events, locate areas where the system is damaged, undersized, or otherwise underperforming, and provide accurate data needed for future capital improvement projects, grant applications, and compliance with regulatory requirements. This survey will provide much needed inventory and assessment to enable the City to establish a comprehensive Geographic Information System (GIS) for the stormwater drainage infrastructure. This assessment is a critical step toward developing long-term solutions for stormwater management, improving system performance, and reducing flood risk in vulnerable areas of the City.
- Budget: $543,250
- Project Period: September 2025 - November 2026
