Types of Certificates
Certificate of Occupancy (C.O.)
The Certificate of Occupancy is the final construction document that authorizes occupancy of a structure. A Certificate of Occupancy is only issued for new construction, additions, or repairs due to fire damage, and change of occupancy work.
Certificate of Completion (C.C.)
The Certificate of Completion is a certificate stating that materials and products meet specified standards or that work was done in compliance with approved construction documents. A Certificate of Completion is only issued for major construction, certain interior renovations, and alteration repairs, only when requested by the owner or contractor. Applicants may request a CC, but it is not issued automatically. A request form must be submitted and the associated fee paid.
