The City of Homestead continues to actively monitor Hurricane Helene, which has now intensified into a Category 2 hurricane. Despite this development, there are no significant changes to the forecast for South Florida. The center of the storm has moved 25 miles east, but this will not affect current weather conditions in our area.
Residents can expect the following weather conditions:
- Winds: Sustained winds of 23-30 mph are expected, with occasional gusts reaching up to 40 mph during squalls embedded within the rain bands.
- Tropical Force Winds (TF): The probability of sustained TF winds in Miami-Dade County remains low, at around 15%.
- Storm Conditions: Conditions are expected to gradually ease by this evening.
The Tropical Storm Warning, Flood Watch, and High Surf Advisory remain in effect for Miami-Dade County.
Important Advisory for Residents:
- Avoid Tree Trimming or Bulk Trash Disposal: High winds can turn debris into dangerous projectiles.
- Park Facility Hours: No changes to operating hours have been announced yet. Stay tuned for updates.
- Report Power Outages: Report outages to Homestead Public Services (HPS) at www.homesteadfl.gov/outage or by calling (855) 211-2062.
- Report Flooding: Use the Fix it! Homestead mobile app or visit www.homesteadfl.gov/fixit.
- Construction and Business Site Safety: Secure construction sites and business properties to prevent debris from becoming hazardous.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed by following official city communications. Although Helene has strengthened, the forecast for our area remains stable, and conditions are expected to improve later today.
