Tropical Storm Helene Updates
The City of Homestead continues to actively monitor Tropical Storm Helene as it approaches South Florida. At this time, there are no changes to the expected weather conditions. The Tropical Storm Warning, Flood Watch, and High Surf Advisory remain in effect for Miami-Dade County. Tropical Storm Helene is still forecasted to intensify into a major hurricane as it moves from the northwestern Caribbean Sea into the Gulf of Mexico by Wednesday and Thursday.
As of now, Miami- Dade County Public schools will remain open, and no closures have been announced. The City will provide any updates if conditions change.
Important Advisory for Residents: To ensure your safety, the City of Homestead strongly advises the following precautions:
- Avoid Tree Trimming or Bulk Trash Disposal: Avoid trimming trees or placing bulk waste items outside, as these can become dangerous projectiles in high winds.
- Park Facility Hours: The City is monitoring the storm closely and will determine any necessary changes to operating hours for all parks and recreation facilities. Please stay tuned for updates.
- Report Outages: If you experience power outages, report them to Homestead Public Services (HPS) at www.homesteadfl.gov/outage or by calling (855) 211-2062.
- Report Flooding: If you encounter flooding report them to the Fix it! Homestead mobile app or by visiting www.homesteadfl.gov/fixit
- Construction and Business Site Safety: All construction sites should be secured to prevent debris or equipment from becoming hazards in strong winds. Businesses are also urged to secure their properties ahead of the storm.
