The City of Homestead is calling on residents to Be Ready, Be CERTified as it launches its second Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training course—taking place Thursdays, January 8 through February 19, 2026, with the final exam on February 21st, from 6 PM to 9 PM at the William F. Dickinson Community Center (1601 N Krome Ave, Homestead, FL 33030). This new course builds on the proven success of Homestead’s inaugural CERT team, which has already been activated to support local preparedness and response efforts.
Homestead’s first CERT cohort has demonstrated the powerful impact trained residents can have during emergencies. Graduates have assisted with preparedness outreach, public education, and support at major community events—showing how trained volunteers strengthen the City’s overall emergency readiness. Their success has paved the way for expanding CERT training to a second team.
Conducted by Miami-Dade County Emergency Management, this free, hands-on program equips participants with essential life-saving skills such as disaster response, fire safety, basic medical aid, and search and rescue. These skills empower residents to help their families and neighborhoods when professional responders are not immediately available.
Attendance at all sessions is required to receive official CERT certification.
