Homestead’s “Artist in the Spotlight” Returns with a Bold Celebration of Black Identity

City of Homestead News Posted on October 28, 2025

The City of Homestead invites the community to an evening of art, culture, and conversation at the return of Artist in the Spotlight, presented by Councilwoman Jenifer N. Bailey in partnership with The ArtBeat and Friends of the Seminole Theatre. The event will take place Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Historic Seminole Theatre, 18 N. Krome Ave., Homestead, FL 33030.

Now entering its third year, The ArtBeat—curated by founding artist Ms. Tawana in collaboration with ArtWalk Presents—continues its mission of spotlighting extraordinary creative voices. This year marks an exciting new partnership, blending The ArtBeat’s dynamic vision with the City’s Artist in the Spotlight program for a month-long visual arts exhibition that celebrates identity and expression.

The 2025 edition, “Blackity: Reframing Race, Ethnicity & Nationality Across the Diaspora,” challenges audiences to look beyond traditional narratives.

“This collaboration honors the transformative power of art to inspire, unite, and reframe how we see one another,” said Councilwoman Jenifer N. Bailey. “Through this partnership, we’re shining a light on artists who remind us that representation matters—and that our shared stories are both local and global.”

The event will feature a special opening reception, live performances, and opportunities to meet the featured artists. The exhibit will remain on display at the Seminole Theatre for one month following the opening.

About the Artist in the Spotlight Program

The Artist in the Spotlight program, championed by Councilwoman Jenifer Bailey, was created in 2010 by Councilman Stephen Shelley and is curated to highlight the talents of local artists and allow them to showcase their artwork to the local community.  If you are interested in participating or know of a local artist in the area from Broward, Dade, or Monroe Counties, please contact Councilwoman Bailey’s office at jday@homesteadfl.gov with contact information and a sample of the artwork to be submitted. Artists who live in or near the City of Homestead will be given preference.
