Homestead’s Summer Job Program Offers Paid Experience, at No Cost to Local Businesses

City of Homestead News Posted on June 12, 2025

The City of Homestead is excited to announce its partnership with CareerSource South Florida to launch the Summer Youth Employment Program, offering teens practical job experience and connecting local businesses with the workforce of tomorrow.

This dynamic initiative empowers young people ages 15 to 18 to build job skills, earn income, and gain valuable workplace experience — all while making a difference right here in our community. Participants will be placed in summer positions within the City of Homestead or eligible local businesses outside the city limits. Eligible participants will earn $13.88 per hour.

The Best Part? It’s Free for Employers

Homestead businesses and organizations are invited to host student workers at no cost. That’s right — The City of Homestead and CareerSource South Florida pays the students’ wages, while employers provide mentorship and real-world opportunities.

Youth Registration Now Open

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be 15 to 18 years old
  • Be a U.S. citizen or legally eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Live in ZIP codes 33030, 33033, 33035, or 33090

Each participant will complete 140 paid hours, including 20 hours of job-readiness training to help them succeed. Participants will be selected through a lottery process.

“This program is a win-win for our entire community,” said Homestead Mayor Steven D. Losner. “Our teens gain valuable experience and income, local employers get the chance to help shape the future workforce, and together, we strengthen the fabric of our community through collaboration.”

Whether you're a young person looking for a meaningful summer job or a local business ready to mentor the next generation, now’s the time to join the movement.
