Homestead, Florida - Tuesday. June 11, 2024 - As hurricane season approaches, the City of Homestead is gearing up to help residents prepare for potential emergencies. From June 1st to June 14th, Homestead residents can take advantage of the 2024 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday to purchase qualifying disaster preparedness supplies tax-free.
During this tax holiday, residents can stock up on essential items to ensure they are ready for any emergency situation. Qualifying items include cans or pouches of wet pet food, manual can openers, collapsible food and water bowls for pets, cat litter pans, pet waste disposal bags, hamster or rabbit substrate, reusable ice, leashes, collars, and muzzles for pets, pet pads, portable self-powered light sources, pet beds, portable self-powered radios, two-way radios, or weather-band radios, gas or diesel fuel tanks, batteries (including rechargeable batteries), non-electric food storage coolers, portable power banks, smoke detectors or smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide detectors, tarpaulins, ground anchor systems, portable pet kennels, over-the-counter pet medications, bags of dry dog or cat food, and portable generators used for providing light, communications, or preserving food during power outages.
