Lead and Copper Rule Revisions Program
Overview
The City of Homestead is committed to water quality and public safety, ensuring that the water from our treatment facilities consistently meets the highest standards. We have diligently followed federal regulations by conducting lead testing since 1992.
Recognizing the importance of complying with federal regulations, we have launched a dedicated program to meet the requirements of the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR). Released in 2021 by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the LCRR requires that water systems nationwide establish a complete inventory of water service lines by Oct. 16, 2024, and making the information accessible to the public. The goal is to ensure drinking water remains free from lead and that customers receive clear and transparent communication on steps being taken to enhance drinking water protections.
We want to assure customers that it is UNLIKELY that any lead service lines will be found in our water system, as the City banned the use of lead in water service line construction in 1977. Furthermore, lead in drinking water is not a public health concern in the City of Homestead.
About the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions Program
A major component of our Lead and Copper Rule Revisions Program is to create a comprehensive inventory of all water pipes within the City of Homestead service area. Once completed, the inventory data will be available on this webpage. Although the City has not permitted the use of lead piping material since 1977, there are still properties for which we do not have a record and are listed as having a serving line made from an unknown material.
As a result, we need your help to fill in the blanks in our data by self-identifying these unknown service lines for inclusion in the inventory. By gathering information from various sources, including your feedback, public records, and City records, we aim to create a comprehensive service line inventory by the October deadline. Read more in the “Self-Reporting Survey” section below.
Another objective of the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions Program is to provide easy access to information on the LCRR and what it means for your property. To that end, this webpage features valuable resources (including FAQs and guidance on submitting service line material data) to keep you informed and maintain transparent channels of communication.
Self-Reporting Survey Instructions
To help us protect public health and the safety of your friends and neighbors, the City of Homestead encourages all customers with unknown service line material to fill out and submit this short survey.
Click here for instructions and further guidance.
The survey data will only be used to create the service line inventory, which you can access in the Inventory Map section on this website once it is published. Your cooperation and assistance in completing this important work is much appreciated.
Inventory Map
Type your address into the map to locate the service line material information listed for your property. The inventory is updated after records and data from the self-reporting survey have been vetted and verified.
A service line is the pipe that runs underground from the water main in the street, connecting to a water meter that connects to the pipe to your home. The service line is usually seen outside on the side of the house at the hose bib. The City of Homestead owns and maintains all water mains and related infrastructure up to about your property line. Property owners are responsible for the pipes from the water meter to the home.
