The Group Violence Intervention (GVI) Unit was launched on January 1, 2023, with a mission to reduce violence, particularly shootings, in the City of Homestead. Focused on prevention and intervention strategies, the GVI Unit has achieved significant progress in a reduction of gun-related violence.
The GVI Unit collaborates closely with local law enforcement, the U.S. and State Attorney’s Offices, non-profit partners, faith-based organizations, the Southwest Advisory Board, residents, and families impacted by violence. Together, these partnerships work to communicate a unified message: “We want you safe, alive, and free; violence will not be tolerated in our community.”
The Unit is also dedicated to helping individuals who wish to transition to a life free from violence, providing support and resources to guide them along this path. GVI’s strong presence extends to community outreach and engagement initiatives, such as participating in Institutional Reentry Seminars to further assist individuals re-entering society.
Through these collaborative efforts, the GVI Unit continues to foster a safer, more resilient Homestead.
